The challenge & the treasure

the Bible has a lot to say about justice and the oppressed, not simply as a legal matter, but with a great sense of humanity and relationship. What we are trying to foster here at Open Table are deep friendships by which justice and mercy can flow into grace and peace. Friendships that span age, class, ethnicity and other aspects will seem unusual and awkward (even undesirable) at first, but these are kingdom-building skills and commitments we pursue in light of eternity. As much as you can, learn to be friends. This is something Jesus bestowed on us as his followers and commanded we pursue it. It is both a challenge and a treasure for us as disciples to learn to become true friends.
